Artist Statement

It is truly “catching the light” that intrigues me most as an artist. We are all accustomed to the daily, unremarkable movement of light and shadow. There are extraordinary moments of illumination, however, that often pass us by.

I hope to catch the light that others may not notice at a glance. I celebrate those small moments using the rich colors of oil paint in contemporary representational artwork.

Artist Bio

It was in retirement that Alice “Wendy” Warner decided it was time to reach toward an enduring dream. She wanted to paint. “I grew up enthralled by my grandfather’s art,” Wendy says. “I never understood how lines and shapes could appear to jump off a surface and come to life. It remains a constant fascination to this day.”

She attempted to learn to paint years ago, creating only six paintings. It wasn’t until 2021 that Wendy joined Evolve Artist and began to study seriously. Founded by Kevin Murphy in New Jersey, Evolve Artist offers highly comprehensive online and in-person realistic painting instruction to students in 58 countries and seven US brick-and-mortar studios.

Hundreds of oil paintings later, Wendy is actively showcasing and selling her work. She most enjoys commissions. “It clarifies the painting process to know ahead of time where a painting will land and who is seeking to appreciate it in the years to come,” she says.

Wendy’s work has been celebrated with two artist residencies, both at the distinguished Nemacolin Resort in Farmington, Pennsylvania. In November 2023, she spent a month painting both in-studio and on the grounds of the 2200 acre five-star resort.  She returns for a six-week residency from October 1 to November 15, 2024.

Originally from the Boston area and now from Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, Wendy retired from a career based in the non-profit sector. Working with schools and communities statewide, her focus was in local, state and federal grants management and programming. Picking up the brushes and palette again later in life has given Wendy a more mature perspective on her craft.  She takes a patient and meticulous approach to painting, allowing her to produce her finest works for her growing list of clients.
