Artist Statement

What Makes the “Ordinary” Extraordinary?

It is truly “catching the light” that intrigues me most as an artist.

We are accustomed to the daily, unremarkable movement of light and shadow.

There are, however, extraordinary moments of illumination that often pass us by.

I hope to catch the light that others may not notice at a glance.

I celebrate those small moments using rich colors in contemporary representational and illustrative artwork.

Artist Bio

‍It was in retirement that Alice “Wendy” Warner decided it was time to reach toward an enduring dream. She wanted to paint. “I grew up enthralled by my grandfather’s art,” Wendy says. “I never understood how lines and shapes could appear to jump off a surface and come to life. It remains a constant fascination to this day.”

‍She tried painting years ago, and then again in late 2019, with frustrating results. In 2021 Wendy began to study seriously through Evolve Artist, which offers highly comprehensive online and in-person realistic painting instruction to students in over 70 countries. Hundreds of paintings later, Wendy is actively showcasing and selling her work.

So what’s new this year?

Her newest collection started in late 2025 has been a highly intentional diversion from her regular work. In direct response to the challenging and somber times our world continues to face, she added a purposely upbeat side to her repertoire. The resulting illustrative mixed-media faces and figures offer both a fun and sassy commentary on women and the times.  “The Mavens: Wisdom with a Wink” series now has a following of its own.

‍Wendy’s work has been celebrated with artist residencies at the distinguished Nemacolin Resort in Farmington, Pennsylvania. Each fall, since November 2023, she has spent a month to six weeks painting in-studio and demonstrating in the halls of the highly-regarded 2200-acre five-star resort. October 2026 will be her fourth year as a Nemacolin Artist-in-Residence.

‍Originally from the Boston area and now from Lemoyne, Pennsylvania, Wendy retired from a career based in the non-profit sector helping schools and communities statewide. Her focus was local, state and federal grants management and programming. Picking up the brushes and palette again later in life, Wendy offers a mature and well-rounded perspective through her art. She takes a patient and meticulous approach, allowing her to produce her finest works for her growing list of clients.
